“911. What is your emergency?”

Every night, Zara Llewelyn picks up the phone and assists people in distress. House fires. Assault. Motor vehicle accidents. Home invasions...

Between the hours of six and two, she is the answer to a thousand cries for help. But when the payphone outside Zara’s apartment building mysteriously begins ringing night after night, the very last thing she wants to do is pick it up. And yet, she can’t seem to help herself...

Pasha Rivin’s trying to outrun fate. He’s been running from it for years now, but escape isn’t in his cards. As the oldest son of the oldest Roma family in the country, he’s not just a member of a proud and fiercely traditional clan. He is their reluctant king...and now he’s expected to find a wife.

The fiery redhead that shows up on his doorstep, following a trail of breadcrumbs, hunting for a missing little boy, is the last person Pasha’s mother has in mind, however. She’s an outsider, an intruder, and as far as his family are concerned, she’s not welcome on their land, let alone in their king’s bed.

Pasha has never allowed his destiny to stand in the way of what he wants, however. And he’s never wanted anything more than he wants the girl with the burning red hair.

Ok. That little cliffy at the end just made things a heck of a lot more interesting, not that things haven’t been thus far, but now??  Well, now, I really wish the next book was on the Kindle because I NEED to see how everything plays out…

But, let’s start at the beginning.

The title was the hook for me and since I’ve always been fascinated by the Gypsy culture in general ~ whether they are Roma or Travelers and long before a certain reality show was even a consideration to put out there for the masses ~ it didn’t take much to make me put a request in for it and I really enjoyed it. Though, to be honest, what I ended up enjoying may be a little sideways from what others will, but in the end, I became totally immersed in the world and the issues Pasha and Zara faced as well as their unique connection.

So the ‘sideways’ thing. I know I should be all about Pasha and Zara’s romance, and I am, but I cannot deny that being immersed in the Roma culture and experiencing the various reactions to it was what I enjoyed the most, thus far anyways. I loved getting a insider’s view to their beliefs as well as a reminder of why many are wary of them, even as they are intrigued by them.

As for Pasha and Zara. I honestly like both of them. They are both strong, determined and have a way with words that keep you on your toes. They also have a...goodness, a sense of honor to them that one may not see right away, but it’s there if you look hard enough. As for their romance. I found their connection quite unique and one that worked for me knowing what I do about the Roma culture, but considering how much time they actually spend together in the book, they are still in the beginning stages of their relationship and I’m looking forward to seeing how their relationship evolves in the next book.

Now, that cliffy. That was done well because my initial reaction was What the What??? But after letting it settle for a bit, it ties a bunch of the issues going on in the book together and I cannot wait to see how the author unravels it all in the end.
