I’m always excited when I’m able to get my hands on this author’s words, so I was excited to get my hands on Dark Queen, especially after reading the blurb, and while I did enjoy the story, I also felt like there were some things that I needed more of in the end.

I really liked Alyssa. While she finds herself at a disadvantage in the world that she has entered, she doesn’t shy away from it, instead she starts to come into her own. Luca is broody and arrogant, e is a true “the only way is my way” kind of guy, which does work for him, but it also leaves him blind to some things that are right in front of his nose.

Their journey was an interesting one. There was a lot of push/pull going on...at least on one side of the coin, but there was also a strange, but intriguing power play going on where the balance wasn’t always where one would think it should be. I’ll admit that while I did like them together and thought that they could definitely rule the world, I feel like I needed a little more time with them getting to know each other. But in the end, I was happy for them and wouldn’t mind seeing them again.

This was an enjoyable read. I liked Luca and Alyssa and I think that they suspense aspect was actually well done, I had my guesses at what was going on, but there was no clear “winner” for me until the very end. But as I said in the beginning, I could have used more. More what? Time with Luca and Alyssa but also some things felt a little rushed for me, so a little more marination time with the world as a whole. But, in the end, this was still an enjoyable read for me and I definitely wouldn’t mind revisiting the world at some point in the future.
