~**~ ARC Review: Playing the Player (Sydney Smoke Rugby #3) by Amy Andrews ~**~

***3.5 Stars***

I do love me some rugby romance and I love watching as a confirmed manwhore is brought to his knees so it’s no surprise that after meeting Lincoln in Playing It Cool I couldn’t wait to see him brought to his knees, and was he ever brought to his knees. And though I enjoyed the journey for the most part, there were a couple of things that had me going ‘Hhhmmmm’

I loved Lincoln. Yes, he is a manwhore and proud of it and could come off as a cocky S.O.B., though he had every right to be, his heart was golden. He may not believe in love, and his reasons are valid even if at times self serving, but he’s not a bad guy at all. His actions throughout the book proved what a good guy he really was.

Em I really liked. Her reason for going all ‘man-vegan’ was something I admired. She realized that she needed to change things up and did. I loved her sassy nature and how comfortable she was in her own skin. She may have waffled over a few things, but for the most part stuck to her guns.

I loved the slow burn build up between Lincoln and Em and the flirty banter that came out of it due to the sexual tension and Em’s insistence that she wasn’t going to sleep with Linc. It was cute and charming. I wasn’t all that keen on “The Bet”, but I loved how both Linc and Em dealt with it, that was definitely a pleasant surprise. My ‘hhhhmmmm’ moment came with the big conflict in their relationship. There was a part of me that understood the reaction to it, but at the same time I thought it was a very selfish overreaction like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum . And though I am happy that they did resolve things, because I do love them together, I kind of wish things had taken a slightly different turn.

The writing was engaging, though I felt the pacing was a little slow at times and would have liked to have a little more time seeing Linc and Em’s relationship grow, though the moments we do get to experience were awesome. While I loved hanging out with all of the characters, I must say that I fell a little more in love with Dex and Harper, especially Harper, in this book. Even though I had my issues with this book, it was still a fun and quick read and I’m definitely curious to see who will be next on the chopping block.

After a long history with crappy guys, high school teacher Em Newman is going man-vegan. Four months of revirginization has opened her eyes to her doormat imitation but, baby’s got spine now, and some smooth-talking—even if he is sinfully hot—rugby player, won’t be adding her as a notch anytime soon.

Lincoln Quinn loves rugby, women, and poker. And he likes to win at all three. When his team mates bet him he can’t break through Em’s resolve, he’s more than up for the challenge. But this lady has a shoebox of stipulations before she’ll even go on a date with him, much less use that mouth for kissing instead of giving orders.

Something’s gotta give but this time Em’s not settling. And Linc’s questioning everything he ever knew about matters of the heart.
