~**~ Audiobook Review: Isadora (Masters Among Monsters #2) by Ella Frank, Narrated by Lucy Parker ~**~
***5 'Brutal & Beautiful Stars***
With Thanos, the third and final book of the Masters Among Monsters series, about to be released into the world I knew I had to get my ass caught up and since my reading schedule has gotten a tinsy bit out of hand I knew the only way to get it done was via Audiobook and holy hell what a way to go!
Isadora starts off right where Alasdair ends and we get to not only get to know all about Isadora’s past, but Diomêdês and Elias’ as well along with just what the hell Elias (and Leo and Paris) is. I loved Isadora. Talk about a strong female who follows her heart, even though she technically doesn’t have one. I loved her strength as well as how honest she was with herself about what she wanted. I have mixed feelings about Elias, but I must give him props for his convictions and his balls to the wall approach to dealing with the vampires and his imminent death. But of the three, Diomêdês was the one who truly captured my heart. Yes, he is vicious and will dole out brutal punishments when called for, but like Isadora, he has a heart even if the one in his chest no longer beats. The way he sees Isadora and truly values her for who she is was truly beautiful.
And though this book delves into Isadora’s past and her loves, that doesn’t mean that Alasdair, Leo and Vasilios are pushed to the wayside. In fact we get a good dose of this threesome and it’s intense in every way possible (B.O.B & or cold as hell bath needed) as they navigate their fledgling relationship. I’m having a difficult time deciding who my favorite of the three are because they are all just so compelling in their own ways, so I’ll pick them all. And then we come to Eton, Thanos and Paris. Where we leave them at the end of the book broke my heart and I can’t wait to see how things will work out with them and makes me very happy that I didn’t read Isadora when it first came out because I’d be one unhappy camper knowing I couldn’t just pick up the next book as soon as this one ended.
With Thanos about to be released into the world, I’m all at once thrilled to see how everything comes to a close, but sad because I don’t want it to end. Ms. Frank has done a beautiful job at creating such brutal and beautifully flawed characters in such a dark and yet vibrant world that I really don’t want to say goodbye, but all good things must come to an end and I can’t wait to see what is instore for all of us!
The narrator: Lucy Parker
No matter how amazing a book is, the audiobook version of it lives and dies by the narrator, and that is something that is even more true when the narrator is not the same for each book in the series. But here the change works. I adored Lucy Parker’s narration as much as I loved Bruce Cullen’s in Alasdair. She did a wonderful job at giving each character their own distinct voice and made me feel all of the emotions they were dealing with throughout the story. I loved the tone of her voice and the pacing as she read it. I was absolutely captivated the entire time.
A TRAGIC BEGINNING…
Isadora Nikitas understands what it means to be betrayed. That lesson was taught to her in the prime of her life, and when she is offered a chance to exact revenge, she finds it difficult to refuse.
Instead, she entrusts her survival to a mysterious vampire known only as Diomêdês, a male who wants nothing in return but to watch over her—in every way imaginable.
Gifted with speed, strength, and immortality, she determines that her life will no longer be governed by the needs and wants of a mere man. She has cowered for the last time, and with her Ancient by her side, she thrives and blossoms into the most formidable female vampire in existence.
But, once upon a time, like all little girls, Isadora believed in love. She believed it because she once had it. So, when it comes along a second time, she knows that it’s possible—but when you love someone, they become your weakness. Unless, in fact, they become your enemy instead…
A MYSTERIOUS PAST…
Fulfilling your life’s prophecy should be empowering. At least, that’s what Elias Fontana always believed. But, as he stands guard over the beautiful vampire he’s taken hostage, his convictions start to crumble. Made to believe by his creators that he and two others have been designed to destroy a dangerous race, he has difficulty connecting his current reality to the woman he once loved.
A TANGLED TALE TO UNRAVEL…
When friends become enemies and enemies become lovers, who can you trust in the webs of lies and despair? And, when your life is at stake and blood has been shed, how much are you willing to sacrifice to fulfill your destiny?
