~**~ ARC Review: The Hard Truth About Sunshine by Sawyer Bennett ~**~

***5 ‘Hard Truth’ Stars***

I’ve started and stopped this review a few times already because there is so much to say and yet saying too much may ruin the journey if you decide to take a chance on this book, and I do believe wholeheartedly that you should take a chance on it. I don’t think you need to go in blind, in fact the description does a pretty good job at telling the reader what you’ll find between the pages, but you do need to go in with an open heart and mind as this motley crew go on not only a physical journey but an emotional one as well.

When this book was announced it was done along with a little warning that this book was a departure from the authors norm. In one sense that is true because anyone who has picked up a Sawyer Bennett book knows that the romance will be all kinds of smexy goodness, whereas the romance here is on the more sweet side, but no less potent. In fact, I think this is one of the most honest romances she’s ever written because they are unable to hide from each other. There are secrets to be unearthed, but even those are laid out for all to see once they take their blinders off.

But aside from the romance aspect, this book is pure Sawyer Bennett awesomeness because from the first page she makes you take notice of the characters and before the first chapter is over has you invested in them. You may love them or hate them, but you can’t help wanting to know their stories and how the road trip may or may not cause a shift in their perceptions of themselves and how they view their lives.

There will no doubt be a clear divide on how each reader will feel about this book, some will love it and some won’t. For me this book had me pondering how believing in hope and happiness can be scarier than contemplating death. How coming to terms with your demons can ultimately set you free, but not always in the way you thought it would. And how allowing someone in, just a little, can change everything.

So if you choose to take the plunge, go in with an open heart and mind and remember that the hard truths will set you free.

New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett has written her most gripping and poignant tale yet. Provocatively heart-breaking, audaciously irreverent and romantically fulfilling, The Hard Truth About Sunshine exposes just how very thin the line is between a full life and an empty existence.

Despite having narrowly escaped death's clutches, Christopher Barlow is grateful for nothing. His capacity to love has been crushed. He hates everyone and everything, completely unable to see past the gray stain of misery that coats his perception of the world. It's only after he involuntarily joins a band of depressed misfits who are struggling to overcome their own problems, does Christopher start to re-evaluate his lot in life.

What could they possibly learn from one another? How could they possibly help each other to heal? And the question that Christopher asks himself over and over again... can he learn to love again?

He's about to find out as he embarks upon a cross country trip with a beautiful woman who is going blind, a boy with terminal cancer, and an abuse victim who can't decide whether she wants to live or die.

Four people with nothing in common but their destination. They will encounter adventure, thrills, loss and love. And within their travels they will learn the greatest lesson of all.

The hard truth about sunshine...

Warning: This book deals with some tough issues including suicide and sexual abuse.
