***4 “Worth It All” Stars***
I seriously devoured this book (IWasSupposedtobeDoingtheWorkThingShhhhh) and I lay the blame for that entirely on Matt Adams’ shoulders. Being in his head in that opening chapter was what willing shoved me down the rabbit hole and I NEEDED to see how much of a clusterf*ck these three would get themselves into and how they would work it out and I wasn’t disappointed. Mister Wrong was a fun, quick, smexy and sweet character driven read about how one split second decision can rip your world apart and become the best thing to ever happen to you.
I adored Matt right from the start. What I loved about him is the exact same thing that had me wanting to smack him upside the head. He is the type of person to do something anonymously for another and as long as that person was happy, he’s happy, even when that person gave credit to another. That drove me batshit crazy. I loved that he was that guy who just did, but I wanted him to speak up for himself and simply say “It was me” so many times.
While I adored Matt and his faults, I’m a bit waffly over Cora. I like the girl, but her logic and how she viewed certain things had me shaking my head. She’s this smart, vibrant woman who, for all intents and purposes, is a really good person, but allows herself to be in a situation that she knows she isn’t absolutely happy in. It happens to us all, but when the fact is thrown in your face numerous times one has to wonder if the person truly knows their own heart.
Things between Matt, Cora and Jacob escalate quickly BUT it has been twenty years in the making so it’s understandable and quite honestly I really liked that things weren’t drawn out any more than they were. Lot’s of secrets and lies are revealed and time to process it all was needed and taken. I found myself growling “Don’t do it. Don’t...gah! You did it” at the characters and there were a couple of moments where I had to question if Cora deserved Matt, not that Matt is squeaky clean in all of this since he’s had a hand in quite a few situations that got them to where they are in at the start of the book, but in the end I can say that based on the chemistry and connection Cora and Matt have without even trying that they really do belong together. As for Jacob, well...let’s just say I wasn’t impressed with him and really had no sympathy for him.
I’m not always a huge fan of love triangles and will waffle quite a bit over picking one up, but after reading Hate Story I became a fan of Nicole Williams and wanted to see what she’d do with it and even when I was frustrated with the characters and their choices, I couldn’t put Mister Wrong down. I was thoroughly engaged the entire time and really liked how things ended up. And I’m really hoping that Maggie may one day get her own book because she was pretty bad ass.
