Such a great read!
Not that I doubted that it would be since I loved The Forgotten Commander (Book #1 in the series), but this one? This one I pretty much devoured in no time flat. It was sweet, smexy and while there was drama and the angsty-ness was on the low side of the spectrum and all of that mixed together made it a read I couldn’t (well, wouldn’t) put down.
I adored Calix and Emery. Calix is sweet, compassionate and determined. He may not appear to be an alpha AF male on the surface, but when something, or someone matters, his alpha nature comes out loud and clear. Emery is a fighter. This woman hasn’t had a smooth life, not with the health issues she’s had to live with, but she kept going and did everything she could to survive.
Calix and Emery’s journey to their HEA was a lot of fun to experience. I loved how they followed their guts, and hearts, when it came to doing what was best for themselves and each other and did everything they could to protect and care for one another. There wasn’t a lot of angsty-ness going on between them, which I loved, but they did have a few obstacles to overcome, but it was all worth it in the end.
I thoroughly enjoyed this addition to the series. The writing was engaging, pacing good and I loved the dual first person POV’s. The tone of the book is definitely different than the first one, and it totally worked for me because it really represented both Calix and Emery’s personalities to a T. I liked how I got to know a little bit more of Mortuus and the males who inhabit it and I cannot wait to read the next book because Draven is one of my favs and after that epilogue...I seriously need that book sooner rather than later!
