***5 ‘Team Ryan’ Stars***
I made grabby hands at this book mainly because I’m a fan of the author’s words. I read the blurb simply to get an idea of what may happen, but basically went in blind and I absolutely loved it! There are some heavy emotional scenes, but it’s balance out nicely with humor, heart and hope, along with some heat tossed into the mix, as well as a few interesting and surprising twists tossed into the mix that kept me turning the pages and needing/wanting to read about the cast of characters that brought this story to life.
I need my own Ryan. I really, really do because *Le Sigh* this man is a really good man. I know that doesn’t give much, but he truly is ~ he can also cook, so he totally gets brownie points in my book. He’s sweet, charismatic and charming. I loved Micaela. She had her moments, though much of that had to do with her age and how life went sideways for her, but in the end I liked the woman she turned into.
Their journey to their HEA starts off on quite the somber note, but I really enjoyed watching as they truly got to know each other and through the evolution of their relationship grew themselves and had some pretty good life changing epiphanies because of it. Their bantering was a lot of fun and the chemistry was hot. They both get thrown some interesting bumps in the road ~ individually and as a couple ~ but I thoroughly enjoyed watching them get the HEA they never knew they wanted.
This was a great read. There are some pretty interesting and heavy topics that come into play, but nothing was overdone. Everything was necessary for both Ryan and Micaela’s growth ~ even if it was heartbreaking. As for the secondary characters, I loved their families and how close they all were and then there are Lexi and Georgia. These two cracked me up and I’m definitely looking forward to getting my hands on their books.
So, funny thing about this book, I didn’t realize until a few chapters in that this book is a spinoff of two other series, Fighting & Fighting Love. I have not yet read either series, I was introduced to this author after they were published, but I can honestly say that if you haven’t read them that you won’t be lost and that you’ll want to go out and grab them once you’re done so you can get to know them all a whole lot better.
