As soon as I saw the title I KNEW I had to get my hands on this book.
It didn’t matter that I hadn’t read the synopsis, or even truly looked at who the author was, all I could think was this book was going to have some sort of tie to The Hunchback of Notre Dame and I needed to find out if I was right.
And I was *Happy dance*
And this book also gave me the chance to finally read something by the author, who I’ve checked out from time to time, but never went down the rabbit hole with.
Until now.
Since this is a duet, I’m not going to go deep into much because there is still more to come, but I’m LOVING what I’ve read thus far.
Quinton and Esme are such great characters and easy to connect with. They are determined, passionate, vulnerable, damaged and imperfectly perfect. Their histories have truly made them who they are and while there is a lot of heartbreak and tragedy in their lives, they have found ways ~ healthy or not ~ to persevere.
And as for their journey together...intense, sensual, dark, electric. I thoroughly enjoyed watching them dance around and towards each other. I really liked how they got under each other's skins and saw far beyond what the world saw of them.
This book hit all the right buttons for me. The writing was engaging and the dual first person POV’s were done very well. There are some hot topics in the book revolving around religion, politics and even race/ethnicity, but they are all handled well and important components to either the characters themselves or the overall story arc. As for the supporting cast of characters. This book is chock full of intriguing characters ~ no matter if they are friend, foe or in the in between and Ioved all that they brought to the story.
As for THAT ending….my heart was already put through the wringer...but that ending...I NEED the next book, like yesterday! So, time to practice patience...try…
