This was one of those random, let’s just give it a go just because kinda choices and I have to say, I’m very happy I went with it. This book hooked me from the start and while both Jax and Sidney drove me a tinsy bit batshitcrazy with all the push/pull going on between them, I ended up not only loving them, but the people closest to them and am definitely looking forward to seeing what happens with this crew.
I adored Jax and Sidney. Sidney is driven, sassy and a little quirky. She has a plan and has tunnel vision when it comes to it, but despite the walls she has constructed around her heart, she still exudes warmth and compassion to those around her. Jax was unexpected. He has the confidence needed to be an up and coming rockstar, but he’s not all that comfortable with it all just yet. He is broody and has a tendency to shut down on people, but when his charm does come out to play, he is lethal.
Their journey to their HEA was a lot of fun. It was also frustrating as hell considering they were their own worst enemies, but it was still fun to watch them try everything to keep each other at arms length and fail miserably. The connection between them was intense, the bantering a lot of fun, and I loved watching their walls crumble and find that they were each other's person. As for that big road block in their road, it wasn’t a surprise and the time it took for them to figure things out had me growling in frustrations, but it ended up being what they both needed to go through and with a little help from their friends, they got past it and I loved where they were at in the end.
This was not only a great debut, but also a great first in series. The author did a great job at setting up the world and introducing all the main players without it feeling like a huge information dump. My only real issue was that there were times where things dragged a bit for me pacing wise but other than that, the writing was engaging and the first person dual POV’s were done well. As for the supporting cast of characters. I loved River, Lucas, Alex, Mia and Piper and just how much of a family they all were and became. I don’t have a clear favorite of the bunch, but I am definitely curious to see what’s in cards for all of them.
