Helena Davenport doesn’t need a man—nor does she want one. As heiress to her late father’s fortune and business, she’s here to impress. But apparently, you can’t get away from societal expectations—even in the twenty-first century, and the board of directors wants this queen to crown a king.
When she finds herself being tattooed by none other than bad boy Avery at a bachelorette party, she hatches a plan. He’s perfect—tattoos, unruly beard, and a sharp wit. Oh, and incapable of falling in love with her. He makes the perfect fake boyfriend.
She’ll get the company board off her back by giving them exactly what they asked for, and watch them eat their words. What could possibly go wrong?
Social events put the pair to the test, forcing them to get cozy—a little too cozy. The situation soon turns red hot and a little worrisome.
As the plan to stay platonic starts to fall apart, can the two keep their cool or will they succumb to the heat between them?
This was a fun, quick read that was low on the drama and angst but had a good dose of heat and heart.
I loved Avery and Helena, Helena a little more, but still about the same. Helena is a force and I couldn’t help but admire her. Hard working, confident in herself and where she was in life and just a laid back, warm person. Avery definitely has layers and not all of them are bright and shiny, which has him putting a wall around his heart. But even with that wall, he’s still a good, charming and caring guy.
Their journey to their HEA was a lot of fun. As I said, there isn’t a lot of angst in this one, and while they do the fake relationship thing, they had this flow to their interactions that had me believing from the start that they could be so much more if they got rid of the “fake” part of the situation. The roadblock in their journey wasn’t a surprise. It was pretty much laid out from the start, but how it happened was a bit of a surprise. And while I liked how the reconciliation happened, I wish there had been a bit more to it, not groveling per se ~ how things went down was totally Avey and Helena ~ just more, which I can’t/won’t explain because it could spoil it for some, but…just more.
This book is a great addition to the series. It also run concurrently with Will and doesn’t give away anything major that happens in that book, so if you haven’t read it yet, you’ll be fine. But, it was fun to hang out with the Bird’s Eye crew and I’m looking forward to seeing who will bring Hanson to his knees!
