***5 ‘Sunlight Who Preferred The Shadows’ Stars***
Oh my heart!
This one filled it with all kinds of goodness from start to finish and though I know this won’t be the last time we get to hang out with Michaela, James and the rest of the crew, I really didn’t want the book to end.
I adored James and Michaela. James is thoughtful, laid back and a rock for those he cares about. He is also a peacekeeper, which is a strength, but also backed into corners at times, but it was hard not to fall in love with just how good of a man he was. Michaela was a lot of fun. She’s observant, sweet, sassy and was so comfortable in her own skin. She has her insecurities, but she isn’t blind to them and simply has a heart of gold.
Their journey to their HEA was all kinds of sweet and I thoroughly enjoyed watching as everything unfolded. From the start it was easy to see that there was a connection, but nothing went beyond an employer/employee type of relationship, but once James call off his engagement, things started to change and that change was all kinds of slow burn goodness. I loved watching as they became closer and finally gave into their attraction. Now, there were some issues they had to tackle along the way and I thought they handled them all well. That last one, was frustrating, but I got why it had to happen and I loved how everything worked out for them.
I have to admit that part of my excitement over getting my hands on this book was because I, like many others, couldn’t stand Diana and wanted to see just how ~ and why ~ James calls off the engagement and I thought it was done very well. The catalyst was a big one, but it all made sense. And while there was some drama throughout the story, nothing was overtly angsty and worked only to strengthen Michaela and James’ connection. As for the rest of the crew, I loved catching up with all of them. Seeing Trevor, Reya, Callum and Leanne so settled in their relationships and just hanging out with Paul, Isaac and Neil was a lot of fun. And for new characters, Michaela’s BFF’s are awesome and I’m crossing my toes that we’ll see them again in the next two books!

Michaela Olsson has found her soulmate in James Khan. There are just a few teeny, tiny problems…
One, he’s her boss, two, he’s too old for her, and three, well, he happens to be engaged to somebody else.
She’ll take this crush and bury it deep. She’ll take it to her grave. James already belongs to another, so she’ll lock her secret up so tight it’ll be deprived of oxygen, suffocate and die.
Too dark?
Matters are only made worse when James asks her to move into his newly purchased house to supervise the renovations. Working together every day is bad enough, but living in a house he owns is far more intimate than she expected. Then, when James decides to call off his wedding without any explanation whatsoever, Michaela wonders if perhaps her feelings for him aren’t as one-sided as she thought.
While he was engaged James shared a flat with his fiancée, but now he’s moving into the house that Michaela has been living in by herself. She hadn’t intended for it to happen, but the place has started to feel like home, and with the object of her affections suddenly sharing her living space, things become infinitely more complicated. And heated.
Soon Michaela learns she might’ve had more to do with James calling off his engagement than she could’ve possibly imagined.
